Appolonia or "Little Apple"

Apple is one of our original children and she could not walk at all when she first came to us. After months of hard work and tortuous exercises, she was eventually able to get up on her twisted legs and, with the aid of crutches, eventually became quite mobile.

For years she asked me if she could get her legs straightened and so eventually we sent her to Wewak, when two orthopaedic surgeons, Dr John Griffith from Monash Medical Centre and another surgeon from Canada, were visiting.
Both surgeons worked on Apple at the same time, one on each leg. Apple had a very long day in surgery with a number of procedures being carried out.

It has been a long painful recovery for Apple but she has worked courageously since the surgery and is making excellent progress and becoming quite mobile again with her straightened legs.
